GREAT REVIEWS ABOUT PAT AND HIS MUSIC
BILLBOARD MAGAZINE - PAT THOMI"Pyramids" - (Blue Blimp ) Pat Thomi is a blistering guitarist who recorded with such acts as Jean-Luc Ponty and Gino Vannelli in the 1980s. But the Swiss-born musician also has a more contemplative side that's heard on "PYRAMIDS". Inspired more by the mood and mysticism than the music of Egypt, Thomi improvises five long tone poems. Each one emerges like an Indian "alap", with wind-swept dunes of synth padding upon which Thomi unravels long guitar solos, usually on a very acoustic-sounding electric guitar (and on the title track, electric sitar). "Dunes" features an intricate improvisation that glides over a galloping rhythm loop. "Time" is the most dramatic piece: After a languid opening that's typical of the album, Thomi launches another rhythm loop, with samples string bass that powers a cinematic guitar solo. Thomi brings deft soloing and sensitive sound design to a genre often bereft of those traits. -John Dilberto Echoes
20th CENTURY GUITAR" MAGAZINE - PAT THOMI"PYRAMIDS"- (Blue Blimp) L.A.-based guitarist Pat Thomi follows the release of his album "REMOTE CONTROL" with "PYRAMIDS". While "REMOTE CONTROL" was clearly more of a jazz-rock fusion effort, complete with several fine session players, "PYRAMIDS" is Thomi's new venture into the world of guitar-based ambient electronica. Steeped in hypnotic atmospheres, layered with Thomi's tasteful work on electric/acoustic guitars, samples and loops and sitar, the all instrumental "PYRAMIDS" was conceived by Thomi as a five song "quintology". Complete with mysterious cover art and far-out song titles such as "Dunes", "Time", "Passage" and "Ascension", "PYRAMIDS" is shrouded with an air of mystery. Produced, performed and engineered by Thomi, "PYRAMIDS" not only sounds great, but it maintains a mesmerizing flow from start to finish. More meditative sounding than his earlier efforts, "PYRAMIDS" will inevitably introduce Thomi's music to an entirely different audience than before. But rather than simply changing musical directions, Thomi's latest musical move can also be viewed as a broadening of his musical tastes.
